Dalo’s Bakery in Berwick is a place that gets recommended by locals often. Unfortunately, Berwick is a bit of a haul for me so I haven’t had the chance to stop in yet. Fortunately, Dalo’s distributes their bakery style (Old Forge type) pizza to local stores and convenience marts. I was traveling through Lehman township and stopped at the Citgo/Lehman Express known for their famous crab cakes. While picking up a crab cake, I noticed a tray and some cuts of Dalo’s Pizza in the refrigerator for sale. Of course I grabbed a couple cuts!
Reviewing Dalo’s Cold Cut Pizza
I tried the pizza two ways. First, I tried the pizza cold. The cheese had an interesting shine and sort of waxiness to it. The sauce was smooth, seasoned nicely, and slightly sweet and somewhat savory. The crust was of medium thickness and had some crispiness despite still being cold.
Secondly, I cooked a slice in in the air fryer. The experience was completely different with the pizza heated up. The flavors all came alive and the sauce was bursting with flavor. The cheese, which I caramelized slightly took on a whole different texture and appearance. And the crust, I must say, is the best crust I’ve had to date on a bakery style cold cut/take and bake pizza!
