A New Era for DaVinci Pizza in Scranton

Located at 505 Linden St, Scranton, PA 18503, DaVinci Pizza has undergone several ownership changes since its days as Sal’s Pizza. With whispers of improved recipes and new offerings at their slice counter, I knew I had to stop by and give it a fresh review. On my visit, I sampled four different slices: a Grandma slice, a Cup N’ Char Pepperoni with Hot Honey slice, a Buffalo Chicken slice, and a Pagash (mashed potato) slice. Each had its own unique personality, but which one stood out the most?

Grandma Pizza: A Slice Above the Rest

The Grandma slice was my favorite of the four. Built on a medium-thickness Sicilian crust, it had an airy crumb, a pillowy interior, and an incredibly crispy bottom. The high-quality mozzarella melted beautifully, delivering a rich and satisfying flavor. But the star of the show was the hearty, chunky marinara sauce, enhanced with onions, basil, and herbal notes that added depth and balance. This was an excellent take on a classic Grandma slice, standing out for its perfect blend of texture and flavor.

Hot Honey Pepperoni: Sweet Heat Perfection

The Cup N’ Char Pepperoni with Hot Honey slice started with the same Sicilian/Grandma crust, baked to a deep golden brown perfection. The punchy pizza sauce had a nice kick, complementing the blend of American and mozzarella cheese. The crispy, flavorful Cup N’ Char pepperoni added a satisfying crunch and richness, while the drizzle of hot honey introduced just the right amount of sweetness and spice. The combination reminded me of the beloved Maroni’s-style pizza, making for a well-executed, flavor-packed slice.

Buffalo Chicken: A Hot Wing Lover’s Dream

Built on a thin, New York-style crust, the Buffalo Chicken slice had a foldable but sturdy base that supported generous chunks of breaded and fried chicken. The Buffalo sauce was the highlight, offering a traditional, simple wing sauce profile with a touch of sweetness and body to give it a smooth, cohesive texture. If you’re a fan of hot wing-style pizza, this slice delivers in every way.

Pagash Pizza: Pierogi Vibes on a Slice

Pagash, or mashed potato pizza, is a regional favorite, and DaVinci’s version was built on their medium-thickness Sicilian crust. A thin layer of mashed potatoes formed the base, topped with a generous heap of cheese. What really stood out was the seasoning—rich with butter and onion flavor (without actual onion chunks), giving it the unmistakable taste of Mrs. T’s pierogies. While I’m not typically a big Pagash fan, I found this to be a satisfying and flavorful cut.
