Bricktown Pizza Berwick

Bricktown Pizza Berwick opened in the spring of 2023. It’s located in a small pizza shop on West Front Street in Berwick. However, don’t let the small size of the shop think it’s small on flavor! After seeing a few months of posts from Bricktown on social media, I could tell they were serving the sort of New York/Neapolitan style pizza that I enjoy.

This style of pizza is difficult to find in Northeast Pennsylvania, because many favor a more blonde, lightly cooked crust over the darker, slightly charred crust like Bricktown puts out. For me the char is all about flavor. It also brings a certain boldness and texture variety to the crust. So for those reasons I was excited about this review, but my expectations were also very high.

An Old School Pizza Town With a Bold and Modern Pizza Vibe

Berwick is a town best known for their two 100+ year old bakeries: Tuzzi’s and Dalo’s. Everyone in town has an opinion on which they think is best. Bricktown does their own thing with a new, forward leaning style of pizza in the market. The charring baked into their pies is something you’d more likely see in New York City or Philadelphia than in Berwick. Certainly a bold choice to bring into the market, but it certainly stands out in what is a really a pretty epic pizza scene in Columbia County!

Does the Pizza Taste as Good as it Looks?

As I noted, my expectations were sky high for this one. I ordered a pizza with cup n char pepperoni, a hot wing pizza, and also had a slice of cheese pizza with the sweet sauce. I’ll start with my favorite slice which was the “sweet sauce” pizza. I did not find the sauce all that sweet, but the sweetness it had contrasted the richness and saltiness of the caramelized cheese and shredded <parmesan?> cheese used to finish. The crust was really the star of the show. It was light, impossibly crispy and delicate at the same time. The cheese on top was a quality mozzarella and it all just pulled together with this sort of elegant simplicity that was well executed. Ultimately, it became one of my Top 10 Pizzas I Ate in 2023!

The hot wing pizza featured the same crust that was quite crispy, but not as crisp as the slice that had the benefit of a reheat on the stone (aka peak pizza for me). It featured an easy to eat tender shredded chicken, a more traditional buffalo sauce that was mild/medium, and an optional swirl of bleu cheese on top. A fantastic pizza with a lot going on. It was generously topped and the box weighed in pretty heavy!

Finally, the cheese pizza with the cup and char pepperoni featured the same crust as the other two and was fantastic and crispy, particularly around the edge. The dough/sauce/cheese proportions were on point. It was on the saucier side, but with the generous amount of cheese and the slightly bready yet still thin crust, it was really nicely put together. The cup n char pepperoni was just the icing on the cake – simply delicious.

Small But Mighty, and Well Executed

Overall, these pizzas met, and exceeded my expectations. The many people who messaged me to tell me try this pizza were right – I did very much enjoy it. I recognize that this style of pizza isn’t for everyone, but if you’re a bit of a pizza snob, enjoy high quality ingredients, and some bold flavors and textures you’ll want to stop by Bricktown Pizza in Berwick!
