I stopped by the bustling Nino’s Pizza in Shickshinny to review a couple of their signature pizzas.

Reviewing Nino’s Sweet Sauce Pizza

During my recent visit, I had the reviewed two of their signature pizzas. The first was a unique rendition of a sweet sauce pizza, with the sauce generously spread atop a layer of what I think was cheddar cheese. While reminiscent of the popular sweet sauce swirl pizzas in Luzerne County, Nino’s version featured a classic New York style crust, adding a satisfying light crispiness to each bite. The sauce, subtly sweet yet refreshingly light, elevated the pizza’s overall flavor profile, resulting in a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Reviewing New York Style Pizza at Nino’s

Next up was Nino’s rendition of the iconic New York Style pepperoni pizza. Featuring a thicker, less sweet sauce with robust seasonings, this pizza included more traditional New York flavors. Cooked a bit lighter than the sweet sauce pizza, the crust had a foldable and floppy composition, indicative of many NY-style pies. The high-quality mozzarella cheese melted seamlessly, complementing the pepperoni slices, which offered a nice balance of flavor and saltiness.

One pizza I did set out to try was the Sicilian that many, many people told me about. They make the crusts fresh to order and allow them to rise so the wait time is 45 minutes to an hour. Unfortunately I did not have the time to wait for one so I’ll have to return to try. The burgers also seem to have a ton of fanfare from locals so I’m interested to try one of those as well.

A Great Place to Stop When in Shickshinny

In summary, both pizzas met my expectations, and showcased Nino’s commitment to quality ingredients and customer service. While I personally favored the cheese and sauce combination of the New York style pizza, the crispy bake of the sweet sauce pizza left a lasting impression. Coupled with the warm hospitality of the staff, Nino’s Pizza Shickshinny undoubtedly earns its reputation as a great destination to try for pizza enthusiasts traveling through the area.
