Rosa Rosa Pizza Lancaster has been a viral internet sensation for their famous spaghetti pizza! Foodies from all over the country head to Amish country to check out this carb-laden beast of a pizza. I was in town and knew that I just had to stop by and try this pasta pizza that weighs close to 10 pounds!

Rosa Rosa is a cool, laid back pizzeria that makes all kinds of hearty gourmet slices. In addition to their spaghetti pizza, they are well known for their pizza-stromboli hybrids. That’s right a pizza that is half pizza, and half stromboli! Additionally, there is a wood-fired oven that they make Neapolitan style pizzas in. There is definitely a lot of unique items to choose from on this menu.

What is Spaghetti Pizza?

Spaghetti pizza is quite simply a pizza with spaghetti in it. Rosa Rosa takes this concept to a whole different level. They make it sort of Chicago deep dish style with a thin crust pressed into a pan. Then they add a metric ton of spaghetti, sauce, and cheese. They then cover it with a fancy dough lattice work pattern you’d expect to see on an apple pie. The end result is a really cool looking pizza that is cool to look at and absolutely memorable to eat.

When the pizza guy handed me the box I was not prepared for the weight. My arms slumped down briefly until my pizza muscles kicked in and recovered without embarrassing myself too badly! Weighing in at an estimated 10 pounds, I wondered how much a slice weighed. Fortunately we had a scale handy upon returning home and a single slice weighed in at 1 lb 3 oz. If all slices weighed approximately the same as the one we tested, the math would get you pretty close to 10 lbs!

Reviewing Rosa Rosa’s Pasta Pizza

This pizza had the label of “gimmick pizza” flashing in my brain. Truthfully, it is a bit of a gimmick, but its genius is how it is thoughtfully put together and executed. First, the crust on the pizza reminded me of a pizza dough/pie crust hybrid. It was tender, lightly crisp, slightly flaky, and really had a nice flavor. The pasta was cooked beautifully – just beyond al dente.

There was enough sauce inside to provide some nice flavor, but not so much that it became a sloppy mess. The proportions were really good for something of this size and mass. Rosa Rosa also provides an additional bowl of sauce on the side so you can dip the spaghetti pizza into it. Really, if I was going to invent a pasta pizza, I can’t think of a better way to do it.

My Overall Impression

Overall, I’m thrilled I experienced this pizza. Some regular customers told me about how frequently they order it for special occasions. Since I entered a carb coma about 30 minutes of trying one slice, I’m not sure I’d consume this often, but it’s a great conversation piece and makes for really exciting content to share with everyone. I would recommend you experience it (along with at least 3 other friends) if you are in the Lancaster area looking for something different to try!
