Slugger’s Knocks it Out of the Park With “100 Pound Pizza”
Lancaster Sports-Themed Takeout and Delivery Joint Serving the Community Since 2004
Slugger’s Pizzeria is a great little take-out and delivery joint on Queen Street in Lancaster just one block away from Clipper Magazine Stadium where the Lancaster Barnstormers play. I was in town visiting with family and asked where I could find some of the best pizza in the city and they lead me to Slugger’s.
In doing a little research on the place, one thing that struck me was their guarantee prominently on their website and facebook page: “If you’re ever disappointed, if you’re ever not 100% thrilled with your purchase for any reason, let me know. If I can’t make it right, I’ll give you your money back…Every Penny! -Chris” This struck me as a deeply personal way to be accountable to customers and let them know that Chris stands behind his product. Many restaurants have guarantees, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen something so specific, broadly applied, and have the owner put his name on it as well! Kudos to the team for making such a covenant and connection with customers.
Video Review of Slugger’s Pizzeria
It only took about 5 minutes for me to notice that the promise being made on the website was the real deal. I could see how clean and spotless the operation was, how the team behind the counter meticulously weighed and prepared every item for consistency, how every customer was greeted by name, and how there was a relationship with everyone who entered – except me ( a first timer) of course, but I felt like I was a regular by the time I left with my pizza!
The “100 lb Pizza” from Slugger’s Pizzeria in Lancaster |
As we discussed what to order, one pizza on the menu caught my attention – “The 100 Pound Pizza!” The name is certainly a headline grabber, and the description shed some light on this cleverly named pie – 1 full pound of mozzarella cheese and 100 pepperoni slices layered on the pizza. When they handed the box to me, it may not have weighed 100 pounds, but it had some serious mass to it!
The Pizza Review
The crust was moderately thin, soft, foldable, and provided a strong foundation for the generous amount of toppings. The cheese was a high quality and delicious mozzarella which I very much enjoyed. The pepperoni was plentiful, flavorful, crisp on the top layer, and I got a slice of roni with every bite. I really liked the sauce too as it was smooth but with some texture to it, made from quality tomatoes, and was appropriately seasoned to have enough sweetness and herbs to flavor and balance out the generous amounts of cheese and pepperoni. This was a filling, beast of a pizza, but certainly a great pizza to watch a football game or other sporting with.
Overall, this was a really nice visit to Slugger’s Pizzeria. I never know what kind of pizza I’ll be getting when I’m outside of my local NEPA footprint, but I’m glad my family knows where to find good pizza in that area. If you’re in town and hungry, I do recommend trying the 100 Pound Pizza! And by the looks of things, if you aren’t happy (which I think you will be) just give Chris a call and he’ll take care of you!
