Leggio’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria (Dallas, PA) — NEPA Pizza Review
If you’re searching for pizza in Dallas, PA, there’s a good chance Leggio’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria is already on your radar. It’s been on mine for a while.
I actually reviewed their Plains location over a decade ago and remember enjoying it, so when I was looking for a Dallas pizza spot open for lunch that I hadn’t yet reviewed, Leggio’s felt like the right move.
Before heading over with my work crew, I asked my audience what to order—and three clear favorites emerged:
- Sicilian Pizza
- New York Style Round Pizza
- Sal’s Special (white pizza with broccoli)
So naturally… we ordered all three.
The Atmosphere: A Sit-Down Italian Restaurant in Dallas
Leggio’s is much bigger than it looks from the outside.
There’s a small bar up front, a full dining room in the middle, and a large banquet room in the back. It has that classic, cozy Italian restaurant feel where people aren’t rushing in and out.
We even saw a couple groups sitting around playing cards, which tells you everything you need to know about the vibe.
One thing to keep in mind—the pace of service matched that “stay a while” atmosphere. If you’re looking for a quick in-and-out lunch, this might not be your spot. But if you’ve got time to sit, relax, and enjoy a meal, it fits perfectly.
Sicilian Pizza Review — Great Sauce, But Dough-Heavy
This was the first pie that really caught my attention when it hit the table—thick, tall, and filling.
The crust was soft, doughy, and dense. It was cooked all the way through, but as someone who prefers a well-done bake, I would have loved to see it pushed further to develop more crispness and texture.
The sauce was my favorite part of this pizza. It had a subtle sweetness, a little bit of tang, and a seasoned finish that stood out from others I’ve had.
The cheese appeared to be a generous layer of mozzarella.
Where this pizza fell a bit short for me was in the proportions. The dough really dominated the bite and ended up overpowering the sauce—which is a tough trade-off when the sauce is actually the best component.
With a longer bake and slightly better balance, this could be a completely different pizza.
Sal’s Special (White Pizza with Broccoli) — A Heavy Hitter
The Sal’s Special is a white pizza loaded up with ricotta, mozzarella, garlic, broccoli, and seasoning.
We’re talking massive dollops of ricotta, plenty of cheese, and a heavy hit of garlic.
The crust had a thick outer edge with a soft, foldable bottom.
Even though I’m not typically a big ricotta pizza guy, I thought this worked better than expected. The garlic helps balance out the richness of the ricotta and mozzarella, and everything comes together in a way that makes sense.
That said—this is a heavy pizza. You’re not casually putting down multiple slices of this without feeling it.
Bring your appetite.

New York Style Cheese Pizza — The Clear Winner
This was the standout for me.
The crust was soft and foldable with a large cornicione that ate like a breadstick, and the overall structure was exactly what you want out of a New York style slice.
But the real difference here was the balance.
Because there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of dough like the Sicilian, the sauce was able to shine—and it really did. That same subtle sweetness, slight tang, and seasoned finish came through clearly on this pizza.
The cheese was perfectly proportioned and worked exactly how it should.
This is what I’d call a true “party pleaser” pizza:
- Pizza snob? You’ll enjoy it
- Kid? You’ll love it
- Crowd? It’s disappearing fast
This was a super enjoyable pie and one I’d absolutely go back for.

- 🍕 The New York style cheese pizza is the move
- 🧀 The Sicilian has potential, but I’d like to see a longer bake and better balance
- 🥦 The Sal’s Special is a heavy, flavorful option if you’re in the mood for it
I’d definitely return—not just for the pizza, but to try some of the Italian entrées that people keep telling me about.
