Palermo’s Pizzeria Hummelstown is a casual and friendly pizza spot on East Main Street. I stopped in to try as it carried a high rating score on google and several locals recommended I try it. The staff was super friendly and attentive and the service was fast. Palermo’s has many options on their menu, but the crazy stuffed pizzas caught my eye on the slice counter.
Among the nice selection of gourmet slices offered on the counter such as the white pizza, Old World style (sauce and Parmesan only), garlic knots, and a couple crazy stuffed pizzas. I like to judge a place by its cheese pizza, but I also had to try the stuffed chicken parmesan slice.
Reviewing Palermo’s New York Cheese Slice
The NY slice was generous in size with a thin, flexible and foldable crust. The crust was baked very lightly, which seems to be the consumer preference in this area from all the feedback I’ve heard from locals. It was slightly crispy, tender, and easy to eat. The sauce was smooth, thin, and subtly applied. It had a bit of tang and low sweetness along with some moderate seasoning. For cheese I believe they use mozzarella. It melted nicely and pulled the pizza together. Overall, I’d consider this pizza comfortably decent, and bordering on what I would call party pleaser.

Taming the Beast of a Stuffed Chicken Parm Pizza!
The chicken Parmesan slice was quite a heavy behemoth to a slice! They did not cheap out on the cheese or chicken inside the two crusts! I felt like one slice could feed a small family. The crusts were nicely baked and has a crispiness to them. The middle was super heavy and it was a bit of a challenge to tell the difference between the various flavors and textures. I found myself wishing I ordered a side of marinara sauce, but it was still solid as served. I’m absolutely certain this slice will satisfy even the hungriest of patrons. It’s a pretty cool idea, and I’d like to try something with some more aggressive flavors like a hot wing or perhaps something with onions, peppers, and Italian meats like a Stromboli.
The bottom line here is Palermo’s is a convenient, casual, and friendly spot. If you’re visiting some of the attractions in Hershey, this will be a reliable option for a dine in or take out experience. The locals love this spot too!
