Some places quietly sit in the background of the NEPA pizza scene for years… and then you go back and realize they’ve been leveling up the whole time.
That’s exactly what happened when I stopped back into Bull’s Head NY Pizza & Taqueria in the Bull’s Head section of Scranton — a spot I last reviewed about a decade ago. Back then I thought it was underrated.
Today? It still is… but it’s also better than I remembered.
First Impressions — Bigger Feel, More Presence
One of the first things I noticed walking in was how much more open the place feels. The front area has been opened up since my last visit, making the dining space feel noticeably larger and more inviting.
Outside, the addition of large roof signage makes a huge difference too. This used to be one of those places you could drive by without realizing it was there. Now it actually feels like a destination.

Owner Corne has clearly been putting in the work.
And the menu? It’s grown right along with the space.
Fresh Squeezed Lemonade with Mint & Ginger
I kicked things off with the fresh-squeezed lemonade, and this wasn’t your average pizza shop drink.
It was super crisp, clean, and refreshing with huge flavor. The mint and ginger gave it complexity without overpowering anything. The balance of sweet and tart was right on the money, and what really stood out was how clean it finished — zero syrupy aftertaste.
Simple drink, executed really well.
Asada Tacos

Bull’s Head isn’t just about pizza anymore. The expanded menu now includes tacos, burritos, tortas and more — and the asada tacos were legit.
At $12 for three tacos, each one came packed with plenty of beautifully seasoned steak. The meat was tender with a satisfying chew and full flavor in every bite.
They’re served on house-made tortillas that are a little thicker than most, which I actually liked. They held up perfectly to the fillings and had great flavor on their own.
Fresh onion and cilantro added brightness and texture, while the red sauce brought a nice heat that really woke things up without overwhelming the taco.
On the side you get cucumber, radish, lime, and spicy pickled onions — all those little touches that make the plate feel complete and thoughtful.
But let’s talk pizza…
The New York Style Pizza
Bull’s Head’s New York style pizza remains one of the most underrated thin round pies in the area — and honestly, I think it’s even better than it was ten years ago.
The sauce is the standout here.
It leans savory with a vibrant tomato flavor, layered with Italian seasoning and just a touch of garlic. It’s classic NY-style sauce done right — flavorful without being heavy, and it complements the rest of the pizza instead of overpowering it.
The proportions across the pie are dialed in. Nothing sticks out too much — everything works together in harmony.
The crust told the story of a dough that’s handled with skill.
The bottom baked up a beautiful deep golden brown, while the outer crust had a slightly crisp, medium-brown finish. The dough was stretched evenly and masterfully, which meant no weak spots, no floppy sections, and a consistent bite across the entire slice.
It’s foldable, balanced, and exactly what you want from a classic New York slice.

Final Thoughts
Bull’s Head NY Pizza & Taqueria is one of those small but mighty spots that deserves way more attention in the greater NEPA pizza conversation.
The pizza game has clearly stepped up.
The expanded Mexican menu adds real versatility.
The refreshed space makes it more inviting.
It’s the kind of place that quietly keeps improving without making a big fuss about it — and those are often the ones worth rediscovering.
If you haven’t been in a while, it might be time to change that.
