I recently stopped by Milan Coal Fired Pizza in Dallas, located inside the Yalick Farms complex, and right away the setup caught my attention. The pizzeria is owned by the same folks behind Burrito Loco next door—and there’s actually an interior opening that connects the two. You can literally walk from a coal-fired pizza oven to a margarita bar in just a few steps, which is a pretty fun and unique concept for NEPA.
As soon as I walked in, I couldn’t help but notice some interesting parallels to Colarusso’s Coal Fired Pizza. It’s probably just coincidence, but after Colarusso’s moved out of their former Dickson City location near Target, Burrito Loco opened in that exact spot. Now here we are again—coal-fired pizza, coal-fired wings, and Burrito Loco sharing space. Familiar… but definitely not a bad thing.
The Order
I stopped in with a few friends and leaned heavily on recommendations from my trusty Facebook followers. We ordered:
- A grandma pizza
- A large round cheese pizza (ordered well done)
- Coal-fired chicken wings
- Antipasto
From the jump, the service stood out. Our server was extremely friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care that we had a good experience—which always sets the tone for a visit.
Wood-Fired Breadsticks & Antipasto
The first thing to hit the table was a complimentary basket of wood-fired breadsticks. These were made from thinly rolled pizza dough, brushed with oil and seasoning, and baked in the oven. Light, warm, and simple—just enough to get us ready for what was coming next.
The antipasto turned out to be a great call. A lightly dressed bed of fresh lettuce was topped with large slices of Italian meats and cheeses, stacked and rolled, plus roasted red peppers, olives, artichokes, and tomatoes. The portion was generous, perfect for sharing, and the freshness really stood out. My followers were right—this is a solid order here.
Coal-Fired Chicken Wings
Next up were the coal-fired wings, and these absolutely stole the show. We ordered them topped with fried onions. I don’t actually eat the onions, but I love the sweetness and flavor they bring to the wings.
These are not your typical fried wings. Think more along the lines of an oven-roasted or rotisserie-style wing, heavily seasoned with herbs and spices. They came out steaming hot, nicely charred in spots, crisp on the outside, moist inside, and impressively large. Big flavor, great texture, and easily a homerun for me.
Grandma Pizza (With a Little History)
The grandma pizza had an unexpected personal connection for me. My all-time favorite grandma pizza came from Annarella’s Pizza, which used to be located in this exact plaza years ago. While chatting with the owner afterward, I learned that he previously worked at Annarella’s—and suddenly things started to make sense.
The corners of the grandma pizza here are pulled over the pan just like Annarella’s used to do. While the pizza itself isn’t the same, that technique definitely gave me some nostalgic vibes.
This grandma pizza comes topped with sauce, mozzarella, minced garlic, and a pesto drizzle. What impressed me most was the garlic. There’s a lot of it, but it’s not aggressive, bitter, or overpowering. The flavor was light, pleasant, and didn’t linger or repeat on me later—which is no small feat with that much garlic.
The crust is razor thin and par-baked ahead of time, giving it a very crispy edge and a lightly crisp center. There’s also a sneaky-generous amount of cheese hiding underneath the sauce and pesto. The sauce itself was punchy and flavorful, reading a little acidic with a nice tang. Overall, this was a very enjoyable grandma pizza and one we were happy to order.

Large Round Cheese Pizza
For the large round plain pizza, multiple followers told me the key was ordering it well done—so I listened. The crust came out with beautiful color, and I’m glad we went that route.
This pizza is built with the cheese under the sauce, which is swirled on top, and finished with fresh basil. The San Marzano tomato sauce had noticeable tang and acidity and was bursting with flavor. The cheese was clearly high quality.
While the crust looked great visually, I didn’t find it especially crispy. It leaned more on the chewy, softer side—very reminiscent of Neapolitan-style pizza. Still enjoyable, just a different texture than some folks might expect when they hear “coal-fired.”

Final Thoughts
Overall, Milan Coal Fired Pizza in Dallas, PA was a very enjoyable stop at one of NEPA’s newer pizza spots. It’s a smaller space with a unique connected concept, friendly service, and a menu loaded with strong options. The coal-fired wings are a must-order, the antipasto is a great shareable starter, and the grandma pizza has some nice local history baked into it.
