I Don’t Like Pizza Rankings… But Here Are My Top 10 NEPA Pizzas of 2025
While I review pizza both inside and outside of Northeastern Pennsylvania, this list is NEPA only. After releasing a previous list that included pizzerias outside my traditional review footprint, I experienced some pretty strong feedback. I listened—and this year, we’re keeping it local.
During the 2025 calendar year, I reviewed 95 pizzas. There were a lot of great ones, a handful that missed the mark, and everything in between. You won’t see the bad pizzas on my social media, and that’s intentional. If I don’t have something positive to say, I simply don’t say it at all. My goal has always been to spotlight the best pizza our area has to offer—so with that said, here are 10 of the best pizzas I ate in NEPA in 2025.
Scoring Methodology
Although my pizza reviews are written to describe the pizza rather than reduce it to a number, I do maintain meticulous scores behind the scenes in a spreadsheet.
Each pizza is evaluated using a 10-point scale across multiple categories. The overall score is typically an average of these criteria, though I will occasionally adjust up or down if I feel one datapoint unfairly skews the result.
Since founding NEPA Pizza Review in 2012, I’ve scored every pizza using the same core categories:
- Crust
- Sauce
- Cheese
- Taste
- Crispy/Cooked Properly
- Value
These scores combine to form an Overall Score, which helps me track consistency and compare pizzas across styles and visits.
Why I hate Pizza Scores and Ratings and Top 10 Lists
Here’s the truth: I don’t believe a single number can accurately describe how good—or bad—a pizza is. A score tells you very little beyond a reviewer’s opinion in numerical form.
I’m also not a big fan of rankings. Any one of these pizzas could outrank another on a different day, under different circumstances. And ranking pizzas that aren’t even remotely similar—different styles, ovens, toppings, or intentions—can be short-sighted at best.
Yet… here I am.
So Why Publish a Top 10 List?
Because you asked for it. Repeatedly.
Over the years, I’ve received an overwhelming number of requests from readers to produce this exact type of content. So for once, I’m stepping outside my comfort zone.
This article is my 2025 pizza leaderboard—published for you to read, debate, critique, and argue about in the comments. That conversation is part of the fun.
What This Pizza Ranking Is (and Is Not)
This is not a comprehensive list of every pizzeria I’ve ever reviewed.
It’s not a declaration of “the best pizza in NEPA.”
And it’s not meant to be more than it is.
This is simply a list of the Top 10 pizzas I personally ate, reviewed, and scored in NEPA during 2025. I didn’t try everything. I didn’t get everywhere. I’m just sharing the trays that stood out the most to me this year.
Take it for what it is—my opinion. Feel free to share yours!

Gio’s Pizza Co takes my top spot for 2025! New Haven style pizza definitely arrived in NEPA in 2025 in a big way. You can see that Cafe Apizza also opened in 2025 with their take on Apizza. Hogan’s Heroes in Dallas was the first to put New Haven pizza on the menu. For me, Gio’s Pizza Co in Clarks Summit earned the top spot with the legendary version of New Haven style to Northeastern PA, and it won the Bar Pazzo Big Monday competition 🏆 With that signature char, chewy crust, and bold tomato flavor, Gio’s Apizza is turning heads—and turning doubters into believers.
So what can we learn from a top 10 list like this? Well, this list provides insight into the top 10 pizzas that I rated highest in 2025 – that’s it! Yes, it is true, I visit some pizzerias regularly as I personally enjoy their style of pizza and order it more often in my personal life. It is also true that several of these pizzerias I have visited in prior years. Is there a fair way to name a top 10 pizzas of anything? In my opinion there is no perfect way to do it. This is quite simply the 10 highest rated pizzas that I tried in NEPA 2025. Nothing more, nothing less.
Do I highly recommend each of the 10 pizzerias on this list? Absolutely, they are all fantastic pizzas and I think they are worthy of traveling a distance to try them. I also believe there are many other pizzerias that I visited that you should also try! Check out my pizza map to find a pizzeria near you that I recommend!
The big question is, where should I visit in 2026? Who will make the top 10? Hit me up on Facebook and let me know your recommendations!
