Spin & Savory – Pinwheels and Detroit Style Pizza in Downtown Scranton
Nestled just across from City Hall at 341 North Washington Avenue, Spin & Savory is one of the newest faces in downtown Scranton’s food scene. Opened in September 2025 by Salvatore and Floriana Adragna, this cozy spot has already made waves for its unique take on pizza pinwheels—savory and sweet rolls of fresh pizza dough packed with creative fillings. But the Adragna family didn’t stop there. They’ve also introduced hearty, topping-loaded Detroit Style Pizza that blends Sicilian vibes with Motor City flavor.
First Impressions
Walking into Spin & Savory, you’re immediately greeted by colorful mural-painted walls and the steady hum of city life outside the windows. The shop has that welcoming “local gem” vibe, but with a menu that pushes boundaries. I came in for a few pinwheels and a slice or two, but let’s just say I walked out with a full stomach, a box under my arm, and a whole new appreciation for this little corner of Scranton.
Detroit Style Pizza with Sicilian Soul
All of the pizzas I tried were built on a thick, dense Sicilian-style crust that had plenty of chew and flavor. The bottom had a light touch of crispness, while the interior was pillowy and bready—a solid canvas for the mountain of toppings. Each slice came with generous amounts of cheese, and a light frico edge where the cheese caramelized against the pan.
- Meat Lovers Slice – A monster of a slice, loaded with bacon crumbles, sliced Italian sausage, and those lay-flat pepperoni coins that crisp beautifully. The sauce struck a great balance of savory, tangy, and slightly textured without being overly chunky. Honestly, this slice could have been a full meal on its own—it had to weigh close to a pound. A hearty beast for true carnivores.
- Margherita Slice – A more traditional option but no fresh and vibrant. Fresh mozzarella, basil, and a sprinkle of Romano cheese gave it a bright, fresh profile that made for an interesting pairing with the thick Sicilian/Detroit hybrid crust. Simple ingredients, solid flavor.
- White Hot Honey Ricotta – This was the most recommended pizza from my followers. Piped dollops of whipped ricotta, plenty of crispy pepperoni, (mozzarella?) cheese, and a drizzle of hot honey created an incredible sweet-spicy-creamy flavor bomb. Every bite was layered with textures that made the slice interesting to eat even though I was super full from everything else I tried.
- White Fresh Tomato Pizza – Almost focaccia-like, this one featured thin slices of tomato, fresh mozzarella, Romano, and basil. It was lighter than the other options, but still filling thanks to the sturdy crust. A refreshing balance after the heavier pies.

The Famous Pinwheels
Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying the stars of the show—the pizza pinwheels. These creations take the classic cinnamon bun format and swap in pizza dough, cheese, meats, and sauces for a portable, flavor-packed bite.
I grabbed a variety to bring back to the office, figuring I’d share a few and still have room to sample everything. Wrong. After a couple bites of the pizza and one pinwheel, I was absolutely stuffed. These things are heavy, hearty, and filling.
The standout was the “Dirty Dog” Pinwheel—stuffed with sliced hot dogs, cheese, sauerkraut, mustard, and onions. I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it (I’m not a huge sauerkraut fan), but the flavor blew me away. It tasted like the best New York City street hot dog you’ve ever had, only wrapped up in fluffy pizza dough and taken to another level. Unique, fun, and incredibly tasty.
Final Thoughts
Spin & Savory is exactly what downtown Scranton needed—a spot that’s creative, approachable, and filling. The Detroit Style Pizza delivers on both flavor and size, while the pizza pinwheels are a fun and satisfying twist you won’t find anywhere else in the Electric City. From the warm, mural-lined interior to the buzz of foot traffic outside, this shop has the energy and the food to become a local staple.
If you’re in Scranton and looking for something new—whether it’s a hearty slice or a pinwheel stuffed with surprise flavors—Spin & Savory is worth the stop. Just come hungry, because these portions don’t mess around.
