Nestled in the heart of Glenmont, Romo’s Pizza is more than just a local pizzeria—it’s the realization of a lifelong dream. Established in November 2009 by Anthony Berghela, a Bethlehem native, Romo’s has quickly become a beloved institution for pizza lovers in the area. Named after Anthony’s cherished English bulldog, Romo, the pizzeria carries not just a catchy name but a deep sense of personal connection and dedication to quality.
The Heart of Romo’s: Freshness and Tradition
One of the cornerstones of Romo’s Pizza is their unwavering commitment to quality. From the dough, which is prepared fresh every day, to their homemade sauce, every element of their pizza is crafted with care. This attention to detail translates into every bite, ensuring that their customers are treated to nothing less than the best. Romo’s also offers a variety of hot and cold subs, fresh salads, and decadent desserts, all served on fresh-baked bread. The focus here is on freshness, flavor, and customer satisfaction.
The Pizza Experience
I had the opportunity to try Romo’s at a festival in New York City, and was able to verify that their pizza is everything it’s billed to be and more. I don’t typically write a review with the conclusion first, but honestly it lives up to and exceeds the hype!
The round pie that I tried was a super thin and super crispy pizza. The best way that I can describe it is a hybrid NY style/NJ bar pie. The crust was impossibly crispy yet tender and easy to eat. It was baked to a stunning deep brown with some light charring. The cheeses appeared to be a blend of whole milk and fresh mozzarella, which looked as beautiful as it tasted. The sauce was very natural and vibrant tasting, I wouldn’t call it sweet, but a it had a natural sweetness and some great tang. The garlic oil finish was just a punch in the mouth of flavor that I won’t soon forget!
Final Thoughts
Many times when scoring a pizza, I carefully deliberate over every detail, methodically crunching the numbers (as you’ll see below). But that wasn’t the case here. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew instantly this was a 9+. Everything—the look, the feel, the taste, the texture—was perfectly in sync, sparking a visceral and almost emotional reaction. It was immediately clear this pie deserved to be in the 9’s. This was a special slice, one that will now serve as a benchmark for all pizzas I try in the future.
