Massimo’s Original Italian Pizzeria Montrose is widely recognized as having some of the best pizza in Susquehanna County. The Originial Italian Pizza (OIP) chain is a reliable option for solid pizza in rural areas of Pennsylvania and parts of New York State. I grew up enjoying an OIP location in Factoryville, which has closed long ago, but I have a lot of nostalgia for their classic New York style Pizza and signature house made bread that looks like mini calzones and are fantastic for sandwiches.
I had visited the Montrose OIP way back in 2012 and enjoyed the visit. Since that time, that location had burned down in a devastating fire in 2018 so it was great to see their new location was bustling with customers. The place is super clean, inviting, and offers an extensive display case full of ready made slice pies. The speedy service I received was courteous and friendly, and it was about as good of a pickup experience one can have during a super busy lunch hour!

Reviewing OIP Cheese Pizza
The pizza was vintage OIP build on a thin, foldable and lightly baked crust. The sauce has a nice tang to it with notes of oregano and perhaps a pinch of garlic. The cheese was my favorite part with a pleasant saltiness, richness, and a hint of sharpness to it making it equal parts interesting and delicious. It reminded me very much of the pizza I recently had at Berwick Original Italian Pizza! OIP provides the quintessential party pleaser pizza. It offers some higher end elements that snobs will enjoy, but also is something that kids will love too.
They do bake the pizzas on the lighter side, as this is the consumer preference in that area. So if you’re more in the well done pizza crowd, be sure to request it that way! However you order it, you’re bound to enjoy it and receive some friendly and attentive service along with it! BONUS: I also recommend the cheesesteak hoagie on their signature homemade bread – eats like a bready calzone – delicious!
