Carmella’s Restaurant Dunmore has been making waves with their recent successful launch of their line of pasta sauces. Known for their homemade Italian cuisine, they are also on the festival circuit at the Pittston Tomato Festival and La Festa Italiana in Scranton. I recently stopped by the Tomato Festival to try their Philly Tomato Pie. I also had the opportunity to make some pizzas and pasta with their line of sauces.

You will find my ratings of the tomato pie below. I know there is huge demand for this style of pizza in Northeastern Pennsylvania, but very little supply. It was refreshing to see that Carmella’s was offering this on a limited basis at the festivals. It was very similar to the Philly versions of this style of pizza I’ve reviewed: spongy soft crust, sweet and tart sauce with a smooth consistency, and some Parmesan cheese sprinkled lightly on top.
