This Unique Square Pizza From Virgil’s Plate is Easy to Love
Erie, PA is a long drive for me, but Virgil’s Plate wanted to get my thoughts on their square pizza. Of course I’ll never turn down a pizza review in the comfort of my own home!I’m told this style of pizza was inspired by Police Station Pizza, which I’ve never tried but the photos do bear some resemblance to Virgil’s pizza.
This pizza was an easy eatin’ downright delicious, thin crust pan pizza that i can describe as a thin cafeteria pizza on steroids. It had some flatbread vibes and maybe a hint of old forge crust roots, but really unlike any crust I’ve had to date. Another way i might describe it is a thicker, square, tavern style pizza. The beauty if this was that it brought me a nostalgic vibe of a simpler time in the school cafeteria. As an aside, my high school cafeteria made a bangin’ pizza and stromboli, so my use of the term “cafeteria pizza” is a positive one!
Unlike Any Other?
I’ve seen sheet pizza in Binghamton, NY and Collegeville Italian Bakery had a cafeteria pizza on display last time I stopped by, but i dont think I’ve seen anything exactly like what Virgil’s Plate is doing. Is this style popular elsewhere and I’m just not aware?
