Pizza Shop “by the Haunted House” has a Huge Following!

Chances are if you live in Central or Eastern Pennsylvania, you’ve been to Knoebel’s Amusement Park at least once in your life.  The park takes great pride in the food offerings they provide, and leave it to NEPA to have very good pizza at their theme parks.  Cesari’s Pizza operates inside Knoebel’s near the Haunted House ride and always has long waiting lines for people craving their pizza.

During a recent visit, the family and I naturally grew hungry from riding all of the rides and we decided to finally go and try Cesari’s famous pizza.  I wanted to try a NY style and Sicilian slice as so many readers had mentioned.  They are a bit on the pricey side for restaurant standards, but not bad at all by amusement park standards.  The better value is clearly to order an entire tray, but with an excited 2 year old ready to get back to the bumper cars, we couldn’t afford the wait!  I later found out that you can call in your order in advance and have the pizza ready for you – something to remember for next time!

The pizza itself is pretty straight-forward.  The New York Style is constructed on a soft, doughy, and floppy crust which is easy to eat and adorned with a smooth sauce that’s pretty well seasoned to help adjust the flavor.  The signature of the slices we tried was the generous amounts of cheese heaped on top of the pizza.  I’ve reviewed over 400 pizzas in NEPA, and this by any standard was what most places would call extra cheese.  The Sicilian utilized the same sauce and cheese and was also doughy and chewy with a tight crumb.  Overall, they were both pretty good, but I heavily favored the NY slice over the Sicilian as you can see in the ratings below.

Overall, this pizza really hit the spot and I enjoyed finally trying it.  It will be a staple in all of my future visits to Knoebel’s!  Have you tried it?  Please leave me a comment and let me know what your thoughts are on Cesari’s Pizza!
