Pat’s Pizza is the Ultimate Party Pleaser
|
The Sicilian pizza with pepperoni from Pat’s Pizza and Hoagies in Carbondale. |
When I go to any type of party or gathering where food is involved there is really nothing more invigorating than spotting pizza boxes on the counter full of pizza that I’ve never had before. I mean, I enjoy seeing friends and family too, but when I learned that Pat’s Pizza and Hoagies of Carbondale was on the menu at my buddy’s diaper party my camera phone was out of my pocket soon after saying my hellos and setting down the diapers I had brought along! As I read what I’m typing here, I recognize that unnecessarily photographing pizza so quickly probably warrants a reevaluation of my priorities! Anyway, I really didn’t know much about Pat’s before today so I was pumped to give it a try.

Pat’s Pizza and Hoagies in Carbondale is a great place to order for parties and gatherings because of the pizzas’ long shelf lives and good prices. |
As I review this, keep in mind, the pizza had probably sat for between 90 minutes and 2 hours before I got my hands on it so you have to take my review with a grain of salt and a grading curve. But, I’ve eaten many a cold pizza so I can sort of back into what I believe the pizza did taste like coming out of the oven – so there’s that to consider as well. With that piece of housekeeping out of the way, let’s get to it. The pizzas we had were 2 round pies, one plain and one with sausage, along with a Sicilian with pepperoni.

In the boxes, they all looked pretty good, despite sitting for a while (which again has no bearing on Pat’s!). It was clear that they were all cooked to peak perfection before being pulled out of the oven as evidenced by the golden brown crust and the deep yellow/tan/brown cheese. The toppings were generously applied, as was the cheese.

A look under the Sicilian Crust at Pat’s Pizza in Carbondale. The oil gives it a sort of pan fried effect! |
Each pizza featured the same sauce which was a hearty and somewhat savory sauce. It was fairly liberally applied, which kept it moist and flavorful for the duration of the party as well as provided the flavor punch to contrast the thicker crusts on all pizzas. The cheese seemed to be a standard mozzarella and it held each pie/tray together nicely. The crust on the round pies was dense, thick(ish) and chewy and the Sicilian crust can be described in a similar way, except it’s about 3-4 times thicker and a bit fluffier and cooked in a pan with some oil to give it a nicely cooked bottom with some added flavor.

Large round pizza with sausage from Pat’s Pizza in Carbondale. This sausage packs some heat and has awesome flavor! |
All of the pizzas were as rock solid as they come and also withstood the test of time, which can’t be said of many pizzas. The recipe has a flavor profile that everybody will enjoy along with a pleasant chewy crust that is easy to love. I also believe that these hearty pizzas are a good value, especially when the cost of a topping is only $1.50. I do believe adding a topping is a good idea here, especially the sausage which was a little spicy and had great flavor. I look forward to trying Pat’s on location and fresh out of the oven one day, but for now add this to the list of safe bets to bring to gatherings – especially football viewing parties! The feedback from those at the party was unanimously positive, including from the pizza guy himself! If you’ve tried Pat’s Pizza and Hoagies in Carbondale let me know what your thoughts were in the comments!
