So I know you probably read the title of this post and thought “What in the world is this pizza guy doing reviewing a gas station pizza?”  Well, if you remember we did have some success with the Dandy Hot Wing pizza some time ago, so I can’t be too crazy if gas stations suddenly have the potential to churn out decent pizza!  The other reason I stopped was that I was caught in Nicholson during the snowstorm over the weekend and had very few options on where to eat.  The sign on the door alerted me of the two slice and drink special, so I figured how bad could it be?!

I headed in to find that there were 2 pizzas already made sitting under the heat light ready to be served.  I was able to pick out my own two slices just like a kid at a candy store, and the friendly cashier told me to pick out a soda to complete the deal.  Now, I haven’t drank soda in about a decade, so I requested a water and she catered to my request which was nice.  I looked toward the door and noticed that “The Pump” provides a couple of tables for which I could eat at, so I decided to belly up to the table and dine in style.

After the first bite, I found about exactly what you would expect from a gas station.  A thicker crust, which may have been a premade round shell, but I could be wrong.  The dough was cooked all the way through and was decent, but it wasn’t crispy on the bottom because it was sitting under the hot light for a while.  The sauce was serviceable, but a little bitter and slightly sour.  The cheese was your standard issue, low cost mozzarella which was quite edible.  Finally, the toppings were quite good, real bacon, not so greasy pepperoni, and flavorful sausage.  I’d say the toppings were the best part, and an absolute necessity to add some flavor to the pizza.

Overall, this pizza achieves exactly the goal it sets out accomplish – it provides a fast food option while you are on the go.  It’s certainly quicker and probably more nutritious than McDonald’s so if you are swinging through a Pump N Pantry looking for a quick bite, skip the junk food and feel confident that a slice of their pizza will get the job done and leave you satisfied!
