Antonio’s Pizza in Nanticoke: Sicilian Hot Wing Pizza That Stands Out
When you pull up to Antonio’s Pizza in Nanticoke, you might not know what to expect. The block isn’t exactly the most inviting, but don’t let the outside fool you. The moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly people that instantly sets the tone. The dining room is lined with cozy booths, a bar with games to play (yes, even foosball right in the window), and a cooler stocked with a large selection of craft beers. Most importantly for pizza lovers, Antonio’s has a well-stocked slice case with plenty of gourmet options ready to grab.
I came here to dive into a few specialties: the infamous Karen Special, the highly recommended Hot Wing Sicilian Pizza, and a surprise slice of Grandma Pizza that caught my eye in the case.
The Secret Grandma Pizza
While waiting for my pies to finish baking, I grabbed a slice of Grandma Pizza that I don’t think was even listed on the menu. It seems to be one of those “secret” underground items locals whisper about, and I’m glad I didn’t miss it.
This was a pan-style pizza with a thin, golden-brown crust that had just the right amount of crisp. The cheese blend was fascinating—clearly mozzarella, but I also picked up flavors and texture of some Cooper Sharp or American cheese. The result was creamy, rich, a little sharp, and incredibly decadent. The sauce tied it all together with a savory base and sweet notes that played beautifully against the cheese. Honestly, had I not ordered two more pizzas, I would have gone right back for another slice.
The Karen Special – Pepperoni & Extra Cheese
The Karen Special comes with a funny backstory. Apparently, a customer once (allegedly) tipped their pizza while carrying it, sending all the cheese and toppings sliding to one side. The customer took to social media to voice a negative review, but it backfired a bit and Antonio’s customers rallied with support. Antonio’s not only refunded them but also turned the situation into a special menu item — extra cheese and pepperoni, now known as the Karen Special. You can see the coverage below in the Nanticoke Newsroom:
This pie was golden brown and picture-perfect. The crust was soft, foldable, with a light crisp on the edge. The sauce was flavorful, slightly textured, and moderately seasoned. They didn’t skimp on the cheese—it was gooey, melty, and delicious. The pepperoni added just the right mix of saltiness and savoriness without being overly greasy. The Karen Special felt familiar to what I’ve experienced at other Antonio’s locations—classic, satisfying, and worth ordering again.
The Hot Wing Sicilian Pizza – A Showstopper
The real star of the day was the Hot Wing Sicilian Pizza. I’ll be honest—Sicilian pizza usually isn’t my go-to. Too often it’s heavy, dense, and monotonous. But what Antonio’s served up in Nanticoke was the complete opposite.
When I picked up the tray, I braced myself for weight. But to my surprise, the crust was incredibly light. It had an airy, open crumb with a mix of large and small bubbles, a crispy bottom, and a tender, flavorful bite. Simply put, this is one of the best Sicilian crusts I’ve had in recent memory.
On top of that beautiful base was a generous helping of cheese, diced chicken, buffalo sauce, and a drizzle of blue cheese. The buffalo sauce was everything you’d want: tangy, spicy, with just enough viscosity and a touch of sweetness to balance the heat. Every bite was bold yet balanced. For me, this is exactly what a buffalo chicken pizza should be—and I’d rank it among the best hot wing pizzas I’ve had, anywhere.
