This Gemelli Home Electric Pizza Oven review puts to the test an appliance that enters a market with plenty of competition. Wood and gas fired ovens have been all the rage in the portable pizza making space – until now. Electric pizza ovens are not new, nor are electric pizza ovens in the home. However, electric pizza ovens that can reach high temperatures and also plug into a standard 110v electrical outlet are suddenly coming into the market. Some models like the Breville Pizzaiolo and the Ooni Volt carry hefty price tags in the $900 to $1,000 range. The Gemelli countertop oven sells at a price point of roughly a third of those ovens.
I have owned and tested many pizza ovens, but all were fueled by gas, wood, pellets, or charcoal. So I was super excited for this Gemelli electric pizza oven review. Over the course of a few months I made New York style, Detroit style, Sicilian, Neapolitan, Old Forge style, and even some cheesy bread in this oven. The versatility of the oven was really evident. I was able to bake really thin pizzas directly on the stone as well as thick pan pizzas.
What’s in the Box?
The Gemelli Electric Pizza Oven comes with a pizza stone, pizza peel with solid wood handle, pizza rocker/cutter with wood handle, and an enamel pizza pan. The accessories are solid, easy to use, and will save you some money in not having to buy additional accessories.
Why Use an Electric Pizza Oven?
This countertop pizza oven is great for anyone who lives in an apartment or HOA where gas or wood fired appliances are prohibited. Being free of buying wood, splitting it, and refilling propane tanks is also a nice perk of an oven that simply plugs into a 110v electrical outlet.
The high temperature of this oven (up to 750f degrees) creates a distinct advantage over a typical residential kitchen range. Most standard home ovens reach a maximum temperature of 500f or 550f degrees. The additional heat allows for more oven spring, a lighter, crisper crust and the ability to make more diverse styles of pizza.
How Can it Be Improved?
This pizza oven performs at a high level at this price point, and doesn’t really leave much left to be desired. Some folks may find the 12″ practical max capacity a bit small for their liking. The touch sensitive temperature settings took a couple of tries to get used to. The controls are quite effective once you get the hang of it. One note is that you will get a little smoke coming from the oven at high temperatures so you’ll want to ensure you have good ventilation if you’re making Neapolitan style pizzas. Overall, I find this thoughtfully designed oven performs at a high level and is quite durable.
