Novello's Pizzeria Scranton

Novello’s Pizzeria in Scranton on West Olive Street is located just across from Scranton High School. It’s in the complex next to Riverfront Sports where Zalewski’s used to operate. The easily accessible pizzeria offers an extensive menu with dine in, take-out, and delivery options. It’s a casual spot with a lot to offer.

During my visit, I apreciated the layout of the restaurant. After walking in, I had a full view of the kitchen so you can watch your pizza being made and baked from beginning to end. Novello’s Pizzeria also offers ready made slices for a quick grab and go. They offer New York Style Round and Sicilian style pizzas. I stopped by to review their New York pie.

Reviewing Novello’s New York Style Cheese Pizza

One thing I noticed right away was that Novello’s Pizzeria has a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. They were courteous and even let me have a glimpse into the back of the kitchen for a closer view of how the pizza was made. Seeing the pizza being prepped, tossed, and baked made me want to toss on an apron and jump right on the line to sling some pies myself!

Today I was the customer, and my working in pizzeria days are long passed. With that realization, I opted to take my pizza directly to a table and give a slice a try. The pizza was baked wonderfully with a deep golden brown crust around the edge and underneath. The smooth sauce went right up to the crust with the mozzarella cheese following ever so slightly behind. The sauce was a vibrant red, smooth in consistency, medium viscosity, naturally sweet (not sugary sweet) and seasoned lightly. The cheese was a high quality Grande mozzarella which melted beautifully, had great flavor, and really capped off this pizza nicely

Overall, this is a rock solid New York Style pizza. For this reason, I would say this comfortably fits in the “Party Pleaser” category. That means if you took it to a party, chances are everyone there would have a high likelihood of enjoying it. Why? Because it offers something for everyone: it’s familiar, it’s easy eating for kids, has enough high end touches to satisfy a pizza snob, and really it’s the quintessential NEPA NY style slice!
