Catalano Scranton Tomato Pie has been something readers have repeatedly told me about for years. I learned that it sells out quickly every day. I had visited Catalano’s numerous times over the years with my dad mostly for their famous grab and go Italian hoagies. Back in those days we’d always get 3 hoagies – one for each of us, and one to split because we were always left wanting more!
I generally am not able to get to West Scranton i the mornings or for lunch, so one of my pizza buddies who grew up on this pizza made sure I had a chance to try it! He was kind enough to bring me a “bundle of cuts” wrapped up neatly in wax paper and a white paper bag to try. After unwrapping, taking a look, and experiencing the scent of the tomato pie – I began to understand why people loved this pizza.
Cataloano Tomato Pie Review and Rating Scores

Catalano’s Tomato Pie was a tasty treat featuring a delicious sauce. The sauce had some tang and zest to them consistent with quality Italian tomatoes. It was seasoned lightly. I think I detected perhaps some garlic and onion powders, but couldn’t be certain. The flavor profile was great. The crust was soft and tender and had a wonderful yeasty aroma to it. Finally, the sprinkle of romano or parmesan cheese on top added some richness and flavor dimension. Overall, this was an easy to eat, enjoyable room temperature pizza and I can see why people love it so much!
