Pan Fried Pizza Comes to Lackawanna County!
The Sweet Garlic Pan Fried Sicilian Pizza at Cosmo’s on Oak in Scranton. |
We are very lucky in NEPA to have at least two of our own unique styles of pizza – Old Forge and Pan Fried Sicilian! Old Forge can be found all over the 570, but until now Pan Fried Sicilian was very much a Luzerne County thing. The owner of Cosmo’s Cheesesteaks in Scranton has opened a new place in North Scranton – Cosmo’s on Oak. I reviewed some of his pizza way back in 2013 when he was making it at the cheesesteak spot. I remember those pizzas being great, but the current version at Cosmo’s on Oak is vastly improved over those that I would still salivate over today.

The Ratings
Pan Fried Sicilian Pizza at Cosmo’s on Oak. |
Similar to: Pizza L’Oven, Pizza Perfect, Shandra’s
NOTES: This pizza is legitimately Luzerne County style Pan Fried Sicilian pizza just in a smaller size. The unique tweaks that Cosmo makes to his pizza makes it stand out, but stays true to its Luzerne roots. It’s impossibly crispy and so so so delicious!
Sweet Garlic Pan Fried Sicilian Pizza at Cosmo’s on Oak. |
Pizza Ordered: Pan Fried Sicilian Sweet Garlic
Similar to: Victory Pig, Ernie G’s, Ceccoli’s
Notes: Sweet sauce is usually not something I care for, but it’s not over the top sweet, and the roasted garlic contrasts so perfectly that this sauce really stood out to me the more I thought about it. It’s complex and savory as well as sweet and just strikes the right balances. Cosmo knows flavor!
Pan Fried Sicilian with Sliced Pepperoni at Cosmo’s on Oak. |
Notes: I’ve never seen pepperoni applied to a pizza in NEPA this way before! I’ve seen people slice sausage on a bias and do it like this, but never pepperoni. The long strips allow for tremendous flavor variation and texture – crispy in some areas, soft in others…a totally different way of thinking about pepperoni and it’s pretty darn cool!
Fresh tomato and basil with Cooper Cheese Pan Fried Sicilian Pizza at Cosmo’s on Oak. |
Notes: The cooper cheese provides incredible flavor both in its melty/gooey state and in its charred areas especially around the edge. The tomatoes are ridiculously fresh and provide vibrant and naturally sweet flavor. The pesto is just bursting with flavor. The whole pizza is just fantastic
The Cheesesteak Pizza at Cosmo’s on Oak is an absolute marvel to behold and is ridiculously delicious! |
Pizza Ordered: Cheesesteak Pizza
Notes: This pizza immediately launched itself into the top 5 or 10 most delicious pizza and pizza related items I’ve ever tasted. This all-timer is an absolute must try for anyone who loves cheesesteaks, pan fried pizzas, and straight-up delicious food. There are cheesesteak pizzas and stromboli’s out there, but none like this!
