Chances are if you’re talking about trays of pizza, Revello’s Pizza Old Forge is one of the first restaurants that come to mind. Everyone has an opinion about who has the best pizza in the small borough of Old Forge. Whether you love Revello’s or it’s not your favorite, there’s no denying that they are one of the premier shops that helps put this style of pizza on the map.

I frequently compare Revello’s and their nearby neighbor just across the street Arcaro and Genell to Philadelphia’s Geno’s and Pat’s cheesesteaks. These two shops are sort of the “touristy” pizzas that are sought out by folks traveling to Northeast Pennsylvania. One of the reasons is Revello’s continued expansion throughout the area and beyond.

Old Forge Pizza Pushing Boundaries

You can now find Revello’s Pizza in Kingston, the Marketplace in Steamtown in Scranton, and in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre. Revello’s take and bake pizza are also sold in many grocery stores across the region. Their signature “square” (rectangular) pizza is seemingly everywhere these days. The drive to spread Old Forge pizza beyond traditional boundaries is an admirable one. It will be interesting to see how far it will go!

Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and Old Forge Pizza

Aiding the growth of this regional style of pizza is the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins changing their name to the WBS Old Forge Pizzas! I was fortunate enough to help them with unveiling the super cool hockey jersey. I thought a great way to do that would be to visit Revello’s and grab a tray while wearing the sweater!

Reviewing Revello’s

The pizza was neatly packed in its signature “shirt box” and I could feel it was super hot through the cardboard. My son and I headed over to a table in the dining room to check it out. The crust was certainly cooked to a nice crunchy well done. It was a pretty thin crust, and fairly dense as far as Old Forge pizzas go. The sauce was savory with a pleasant acidity, some notes of onion flavor (no chunks), and a smoothness to it.

The cheese was a creamy, melty blend that was lightly cooked and separate strands were visible. In other areas there were spots of charred cheese as well. The sauce was applied liberally in some areas and lightly in others making every bite a little bit different. Overall, it was a solid tray that we enjoyed. It was good to get back and see how they updated a bit while since my last visit while still maintaining that old school vibe.
