The Top 15 New York Style Pizzas in NEPA — As Ranked by the Voters

Northeastern Pennsylvania is famously Old Forge and Pan Fried Sicilian country, but make no mistake — we have a deep, passionate, and competitive New York Style pizza scene too. Throughout 2026, I ran a series of Facebook polls asking the NEPA Nation a single question: what is the best New York Style pizza in our region? Hundreds of pizza-loving voters showed up, named their favorites, and lobbied for the shops they love. This article is the result of that collective effort.

A quick but important note: these rankings are not my personal list. This is a community-driven ranking based entirely on votes cast by local pizza fans across multiple polls. My job here is to celebrate the results, share what I thought of each pizza when I reviewed it, and compare the voters’ love with my own experiences. Some of these picks line up perfectly with what I wrote in my reviews, and a few are wonderful reminders that pizza is personal — and that NEPA has way more great slices than any one critic can crown alone.

Grab a napkin (but don’t dab), get ready for “the fold,” and let’s dig into the Top 15 New York Style Pizzas in NEPA according to the voters.

1. Buona Pizza – Scranton

The voters were pretty unanimous on the top choice, nearly doubling the next closest vote total. Buona Pizza sitting at the top of a NEPA NY Style ranking just feels correct — it’s the kind of slice transplanted New Yorkers point to when they’re trying to prove that yes, you can find an authentic big-city pie in downtown Scranton. When I reviewed Buona, I gave it an 8.3 overall and called it “rock solid,” a traditional thin crust pie cooked to perfection with a crispy bottom, a sauce that genuinely led the flavor profile, and gooey, stringy cheese with just the right hit of salt. Locals love it for those exact reasons — it’s fast, consistent, downtown-convenient, and the wooden booths, Street Fighter machine, and pinball give it that old-school Lackawanna Avenue character. When folks vote a pizzeria #1, they’re almost always voting for trust, and Buona has earned it slice after slice. No surprises here — just well-deserved love.

2. Antonio’s Pizza – Scranton

If Buona is the downtown ambassador, Antonio’s is the Capouse Avenue institution that everyone in Scranton mentions when the words “favorite New York style” leave someone’s mouth. The voters clearly know what they’re doing. When I sat down to review Antonio’s, I called the pie “a masterpiece” and gave the crust top marks for that razor-thin, foldable, beautifully bendable NY flop — still crispy fresh from the oven, with a slightly chewy interior. The sauce leans a touch sweet with a unique seasoning blend, and the cheese has that rich, salty mozzarella-cheddar pull that contrasts the sweetness perfectly. Locals love Antonio’s because it’s the spot — the birthday party staple, the after-school slice, the place that “rolls off the tongue.” A #2 finish is a tip of the cap to a pizzeria that’s been quietly perfecting its craft for years.

3. Serpico’s Pizza – Wilkes-Barre

The top vote-getter from Luzerne County, and rightfully so. Serpico’s at the East End Center is one of those small, family-owned spots that has been turning out crispy, well-done NY slices for decades — and the voters in the Wyoming Valley are extremely loyal to them. In my review, I called Serpico’s “among the very best New York style pizzas in all of Luzerne County,” noting that they consistently bake their pies just past the average shop’s comfort zone, which gives them that extra crisp and concentrated flavor that NY-style purists crave. The gourmet slice case is loaded and ready to go, which makes Serpico’s a perfect quick-stop slice on the run. Voters love consistency, and Serpico’s delivers it pie after pie. A #3 finish in a region as competitive as NEPA is no small thing — this is a beloved Wyoming Valley pillar.

4. Dino’s Pizza Wyoming Valley Mall – Wilkes-Barre

A three-way tie at #4 says everything about how rich the field is at this level — and Dino’s earning a top-five spot from the Wyoming Valley Mall is a lovely, classic NEPA story. Dino’s is the mall favorite that people grew up eating between back-to-school shopping trips, and that nostalgia carries real weight in the polls. While my most recent review focused on their now-famous Sweet Sauce Pizza (which I scored 7.9 and absolutely loved — built on a thin, light, crisp NY-style crust with a smooth, bold, beautifully balanced sweet sauce swirled on top), the foundation underneath is a legitimately good NY base. Voters know that. The cheese-under-the-sauce build is a Dino’s signature, and it’s a huge reason locals keep coming back. Top five in NEPA from a mall pizzeria? That’s how you know it’s special.

4. Roma Pizza – Dickson City

Roma on the Scranton-Carbondale Highway is one of those high-volume, food-court-style spots that just hums — and voters reward pizzerias that hum. In my review I gave Roma a 7.7 overall and called it “a straight-forward, no nonsense, well above average NY style pizza,” which honestly sounds like the exact thing the NEPA Nation rallies around. The crust was a highlight (8.1) — crisp on the edge, thin and chewy in the middle — and the sauce was my favorite part, with a quality, tomato-derived sweetness rather than a sugary one. The cheese added a nice salty contrast, and the whole pie was well balanced. Roma packs the dining room day after day, and that lived-in busy energy clearly translated to votes. Earning a tie for #4 in this field is a real testament to how reliable Roma’s NY slice is.

4. Nello’s Pizza – Wilkes-Barre

Rounding out the three-way #4 tie is Nello’s, tucked into the Walmart Plaza in Wilkes-Barre — and this one was my personal pick of the bunch when I reviewed it, scoring it an 8.2 overall with the highest crust score (8.8) of any pie on this list. I called Nello’s a “classic New York style pizza” and my go-to for a plain cheese slice in the Wyoming Valley because they are reliably delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The crust is crispy, well-cooked, beautifully proofed, and the slice case is loaded with gourmet options for anyone who wants more than plain. Voters love consistency, and Nello’s serves up some of the most consistent NY style slices in Luzerne County. I had this one ranked very highly in my own head, so seeing the community lift it into the top five is incredibly satisfying.

7. Luca Pizza – West Pittston

The newcomer making noise — and how. Luca Pizza in West Pittston was approaching its one-year anniversary when I reviewed it, and the fact that it cracked the top 10 of a voter-driven list this quickly is a massive statement. When I visited with the Pizza Prince, I scored Luca an 8.4 overall and called the NY style pizza “absolutely phenomenal,” with a thin, foldable crust, a crisp bottom, a vibrant savory sauce with great tomato freshness, and mozzarella that hit with just the right saltiness and a slight sharp edge. I said it “easily belongs among the most impressive New York style pizzas in Northeast Pennsylvania” — and the voters apparently agree. For a new shop to outpace decades-old institutions in a NEPA poll is rare, and Luca clearly earned every vote.

8. Rosario’s Pizzeria – Clarks Summit

Rosario’s on Highland Avenue is a fixture in the Abington area, with a slice case that’s been packed daily for more than a decade. My most recent feature on Rosario’s leaned into their gourmet lineup — the Grandma, Sicilian, Summit Square, and Pagash — but their classic NY round is the engine that keeps that case turning. Voters in the Abington corridor are extremely loyal to Rosario’s, and you can taste why: they treat their NY style as a baseline of quality, and they execute everything around it with the same care. Rosario’s also gets mentioned in the same breath as Buona, DaVinci, and Serpico when locals talk about quality NY-style operators, which is elite company. A solid top-10 finish for a shop that consistently delivers — well-earned. Full disclosure, Rosario’s is my weekly go-to spot and their NY would rank higher on the list for me personally. Stay tuned for my own personal top 10 list!

9. Fratelli’s Pizza – Scranton

Fratelli’s in the Bullshead community is one of my favorite hidden Scranton stories. When I reviewed their 16″ NY pie, I gave it an 8.1 overall and called the crust “definitely one of the better New York Style crusts in NEPA” — evenly stretched, beautifully browned, with a wonderful thicker outer ring to crunch on. The sauce was perfectly balanced, the cheese leaned slightly salty with a mozz-and-(probably)-cheddar blend, and the whole pie hit the table piping hot in under 10 minutes. Add in the renovated dining room, the full bar with flat screens, and the fenced-in patio, and you have one of the more complete pizza experiences on this list. Voters love a great pie, but they also love a great place to eat one — Fratelli’s offers both, and a top-10 finish reflects that.

9. Vincenzo’s Pizzeria – Scranton

Vincenzo’s on North Main is a longtime West Scranton favorite, and seeing it tied at #9 makes a lot of sense given how passionately their regulars talk about the pizza. In my review I called Vincenzo’s a “standout pizza experience in Scranton” — the crust struck just the right balance between crispy and chewy, with aged dough that gave the texture a slight, enjoyable toughness and a beautifully golden cutting edge. The sauce was simple but had a hint of basil that added a fresh, fragrant punch. The cheese was high-quality mozzarella that “packed flavor in every bite” — so good that I happily ate my second slice cheese-only. Open kitchen, friendly room, spacious and inviting. Voters know quality when they taste it, and Vincenzo’s is a quality-first operation.

11. Basilico’s Pizzeria – Dickson City

Basilico’s is the pizzeria that, depending on your taste, deserves to be much higher — and I suspect a lot of voters would agree. Pete Montana and crew brought a real New York attitude (and a Grandma slice obsession) to Dickson City more than 20 years ago, and they remain one of the most influential pizzerias in NEPA history. While my recent Basilico’s feature focused on the OG NEPA Grandma and the Vodka pizza they helped popularize, my original NY-style review of Basilico’s scored their cheese pie a 4.5/5 — with perfect 5s (my old scoring system) on sauce and cheese — and I went so far as to say they “set the standard for pizza in NEPA” outside of Old Forge style. Eleven might feel modest given that pedigree, but in a field this stacked, finishing in the top 11 is a celebration of just how deep the NEPA NY scene has become.

12. Armetta’s Pizzeria – Chinchilla

Armetta’s has been a Clarks Summit / Chinchilla institution for generations, and their resilience — including bouncing back stronger after major flooding damaged the restaurant — is part of what makes them so beloved. When I reviewed the NY style pepperoni right after they reopened, I gave it a 7.9 overall and called it possibly the best pizza I’d ever had from them: a sturdy thin crust, a vibrant sauce with beautiful texture and a nice sweetness, and very good quality mozzarella that pulled long and stringy. Voters here are clearly long-time Armetta’s loyalists, and a top-12 finish for a pizzeria with this much community history feels exactly right. Comfort, consistency, and that home-town glow earned every one of these votes.

12. Granteed’s Pizza – Scranton

Granteed’s is a Mulberry Street favorite and a hot spot for University of Scranton students looking for a fast, cheap, no-nonsense slice. In my review I called it “pretty good” NY style with one of the thinnest crusts in the 570 — razor thin, flexible and foldable in the middle, crispy and light around the edges, with the kind of grease drip that real NY-style fans don’t mind one bit (I actually preferred eating mine “in its natural state”). The sauce leaned zesty rather than sweet, and the cheese was presumably a satisfying mozzarella that added good salt and texture. A college-town slice spot finishing in the top 12 of a regional vote is a credit to how memorable Granteed’s slices are — once you’ve had one between classes, you remember it. Voters clearly do.

12. Grande Pizza – Dunmore

Grande in Dunmore is a casual, classic neighborhood spot — booths, fast service, and a pizza that gets the fundamentals right. When I reviewed Grande, I called it “a classic New York style pizza with a slightly thicker crust.” The crust was actually the best part: crispy on the bottom, soft and a little fluffy in the middle, very flavorful without being doughy. The sauce was applied modestly but had enough presence to keep the pie balanced, and the cheese was a high-quality mozzarella with a slightly salty, slight buttery finish. Locals voted Grande into the top 12 because it’s the kind of dependable everyday slice you crave on a Tuesday night — and there is real value in being that reliable in a region with this many options.

15. Brick Oven Pizza – Scranton

Closing out the top 15 is Brick Oven Pizza in the Weis Shopping Plaza on South Washington Avenue — a more modern, neatly decorated room that’s well-suited for family dinners and casual dates. In my review I gave Brick Oven a 3.75/5 and noted that the sauce-and-cheese balance was the real star: a smooth, slightly sweet, carefully seasoned sauce paired with a tremendously flavorful cheese blend (I suspected a touch of cheddar and maybe a whisper of parmesan). The crust had nice flavor and crispness, even if I personally would have loved a few more air pockets. I called it an above-average pie with “a recipe for success,” and clearly the voters agree — making the top 15 in a region as deep as NEPA is a real accomplishment, especially for a pizzeria that does the fundamentals this well.

Final thoughts from the NEPA Pizza Review desk

What I love most about this list is how perfectly it captures the NEPA NY-style landscape — Scranton institutions, Wyoming Valley heroes, Abington loyalists, and even a brand-new West Pittston upstart all earning their place. The voters honored consistency, history, and quality in equal measure, and almost every one of these pizzerias is a place I’d happily eat at this week. Big thanks to everyone who voted, argued, lobbied, and showed up for their favorites. Keep the polls coming, keep the slices folding, and as always — eat local, eat well, and support these pizzerias. They’re the reason NEPA’s NY-style scene is genuinely one of the best you’ll find anywhere outside the five boroughs.
