NEPA Pizza Review’s Guide to Finding Gluten Free Pizza in Pennsylvania
If you Google “Gluten Free Pizza Near Me” the results are generally frustrating. Aggregated robotic lists with few details and no guarantee that GF pizza is actually served at these establishments. Many of my readers have expressed frustration with the lack of GF pizza options and dearth of a reliable list of pizzerias that make it.
Gluten Free Pizza List Methodology
To meet the needs of my readers, I set out to create a list of restaurants who serve gluten free pizza. The logical place to start was with those same readers on social media. The response was fast and strong with many local Pennsylvania restaurants serving Gluten Free Pizzas. For each suggestion, I navigated to each restaurant’s website and/or facebook page to check their menu to validate that GF pizza is available. Where a menu was not available I reached out directly to each restaurant. That process is ongoing as you can see at the bottom of this page.
Things I Learned About Gluten Free Pizza
For research purposes, I tried a couple GF pizzas of my own at local spots. I also made my own Gluten Free Detroit style pizza. In those instances, I was surprised how good these options actually were after hearing the stories of “tasteless cardboard” from others who have tried. None of these were exactly like a “regular” pizza crust, but I was impressed with how well they mimic the experience – especially when paired with quality sauces, cheeses, and toppings.
Important Point of Emphasis
Pizzerias offering Gluten Free Pizza on their menus does not always mean that the pizza is 100% gluten free. For example, preparing or baking gluten free food in the same area where gluten containing ingredients are also prepared can introduce gluten into the environment. It is strongly encouraged that you check with the pizzeria to discuss their gluten free handling procedures. This is particularly important with those who have a gluten allergy.
